The Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST– 华中科技大学; pinyin: Huázhōng Kējì Dàxué) is a public, coeducational research university located in Wuhan, Hubei province, China. Since its foundation in 1952, HUST has created a rich history based on dynamism and innovation. The university commits itself to the task “Seek Truth and Make Innovation”. Through HUST’s student-centred approach, students are allowed to explore their capabilities and interests, as well as to develop their full intellectual potential. The current HUST president is Professor Ding LieYun.
According to http://www.cuaa.net/cur/2016/ (2016), HUST is ranked 13th among Chinese universities.
In the year 2000, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tongji Medical University, Wuhan Urban Construction Institute, and Wuhan Science and Technology Vocational College combined to form the current HUST, with the Tongji Medical College located in Hankou District, Wuhan. The main campus is in Wuchang District, a bus, subway or taxi ride away from the medical campus.
Notable alumni include Li Ting (李婷), 2004 Olympic gold medalist in women’s doubles tennis, Li Jun (李军), president of the Bank of Communications and Li Na (李娜), a former Grand Slam tennis champion.
HUST has established partnerships with more than 100 renowned universities and research institutions from all over the world. Over 1000 scholars and experts visit and lecture in HUST annually and since 2013 has welcomed several Nobel Laureates including Professor Alan J. Heeger, the Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, and Professor Klaus von Klitzing, German Nobel Prize winner in Physics.
Around 3000 international students from all parts of the world are studying at HUST for degree and non-degree programs. Some courses are taught in Chinese while most of the degree programs are taught in English.
