The 2016 Wuhan Open has attracted its strongest ever field of players, with the world’s top 10 players all confirmed for the WTA Premier 5 event.

The 2016 Wuhan Open will take place from September 25 to October 1 at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center. It was announced on August 17 that 43 players from 22 countries and regions will be included in the main draw acceptance list.

World No. 1 Serena Williams leads the lineup, and in total there will be eight Grand Slam champions and four athletes who have at some time been ranked first in the world.

Tennis star Angelique Kerber said, “After reaching the semi-finals last year I’m pleased to be coming back to the Wuhan Open in 2016. It’s a really important event for all of the players and it’s great to play another top tournament in China.” Romania’s Simona Halep added, “With the world’s top 10 players competing in Wuhan, it promises to be an excellent event.”

It’s also worth noting that Monica Puig, gold medal winner at the 2016 Rio Olympics, will compete during the Wuhan Open. She will also meet the silver and bronze medalists, Angelique Kerber and Petra Kvitova, here in Wuhan.
