Look at this huge Wuhan-made deep sea submersible fish farm

A movable fish farming facility, Ocean Farm 1, will be put into operation in Norway next month.

Salmon harvesting begins by transferring tiny salmon fry into the cage-like device in the sea. One year later, 7.5 million kilograms of fully grown salmon will be produced.

Ocean Farm 1 was contracted by the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group of China Shipbuilding Industry Corp. The facility was built at the new base of Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group in Qingdao.

The fish farming facility incorporates advanced technologies including automatic fishing, hydrological monitoring, and deep-sea positioning. It is the world’s first offshore salmon farming equipment built on the same principle as semisubmersible installations used in the offshore oil and gas drilling sectors.

Ocean Farm 1 is a huge offshore installation in waters 100 to 300 meters deep. The control center is at the top of the structure with four floors where the fish farming work is carried out.

The Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with SalMar ASA for another five units.
